storytelling. titanic
this story was inspired by the magazine cover of the Vision Forum's 2012 catalog, entitled "Women and Children First!"

Virginia sat there, devistated. The world was crashing in around her, and her little heart was breaking. Shattering into tiny peices.
Tears streaming down her pale cheeks, she reached for Honor's trembling hand. "You don't have to stay," she managed to say. Then, with sobs nearly choking her, she cried out, "please don't stay! Come with me Honor! I don't want to be alone. I don't want you to die!"
Honor gently shushed her cries as he put a tender finger over her quivering lips. He pulled her close to his own small frame. "Virginia, you know why I must stay. I am a man now and old enough to give my life for someone else."
"But you are only thirteen," the frail girl stated mournfully. "Fredrick is almost fourteen, and he has accepted a seat in the lifeboat. I see no reason that you can't! No one would think poorly of you for leaving."
"I am not worried about what people would think of me. I care only of what our Heavenly Father thinks of me," he whispered, choking back the tears that would come. "I know it is the right thing to do."
Virginia squeezed his hand. "Daddy would be proud of you, Honor." She tried to swollow the tears, tried to swallow the fear. If Honor was set on defending his manhood in this manner, she would not persuade him to do otherwise. "I'm proud of you, too."
The cold, hard seat they shared on the crowded deck caused a chill to run up her spine. She shivered in the cold and her brother pulled her close. The chaotic rush around the two children faded away into the tranquil peace, felt only by those who knew the Savior. A peace only found in the hearts of those who belong to Him. The tears still rolled unashamed down the cheeks of the sister and brother, but Virgiania knew that her brother had chosen the honorable road, though it may be difficult.
The dark water surrounding them twinkled with the light of a million diamonds, glittering in the sky. The translusent light reflected off the faces of the stranded passangers. Some of the women's faces held schocked expressions, while others shed tears. Tonight would change the course of their lives forever. Their days would never be the same. Their nights would be lonely and cold. Their hearts would never be whole again, for missing from it there would always be the dear, brave men who gave up their lives so that the women and children may go first.
